LOS ANGELES – Oct. 04, 2017 – Global esports organization Immortals, which has raised strategic investment from AEG, Lionsgate, the Milken Family, Steve Kaplan, CrossCut Ventures and a number of LA tech and media executives including Brian Lee, Linkin Park, and Dennis Phelps from IVP, announced today that the company has hired Ari Segal as its new President & Chief Operating Officer. Segal will oversee all of Immortals’ business operations, both at the holding company level and across all current and future titles in which the organization competes, including its new Los Angeles-based team and brand (yet to be announced) in Activision Blizzard’s upcoming Overwatch League. Segal will report to Immortals CEO Noah Whinston and serve as a non-voting Board Advisor on Immortals’ Board of Directors.
“Ari brings a wealth of knowledge and passion from the traditional sports industry and has a proven track record of building or repositioning brands to connect deeply with fans, particularly in their local markets. Innovation, access, transparency, and accountability are all hallmarks of his brand-building strategy and management style, making him the ideal fit for this critical role in our organization,” said Whinston. Immortals Chairman, and Managing Director of CrossCut, Clinton Foy added, “Ari has worked with our investors, partners, and AEG, in multiple cities and live sports venues. As we think about the future for Immortals, hosting live events and building our revenue streams, I believe we found a great fit and a world-class executive in Ari Segal. His operating experience, strong relationships, and proven success working with strategic partners are all huge assets for Immortals, our business team, our franchises, and our fans.”
Prior to joining Immortals, Segal served as Chief Operating Officer for the Arizona Coyotes (NHL), where he led the club to its highest ever single-season ticket sales and total revenue. He was also Special Assistant to the CEO of the Anaheim Ducks (NHL) and led the launch of the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, where he served as the Gulls’ first President of Business Operations. In the Gulls’ first year of operation, the club had the 2nd highest attendance in the AHL and was awarded the first-ever AHL President’s Award for Business Excellence. Segal worked previously at McKinsey & Company in the firm’s Global Sports & Gaming practice and on Wall Street at Lehman Brothers and CCMP Capital Advisors. He earned a J.D. from Stanford University and an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar, and a B.A., with distinction, from the University of Virginia. He is a licensed attorney and member of the New York State Bar Association.
