Immortals Acquires Dota 2 Korean Powerhouse, Team Phoenix
LOS ANGELES – Sept. 13, 2017 – Immortals, the globally-competitive Los Angeles-based esports organization, today announced the signing of the Korean Dota 2 roster Team Phoenix, and confirmed its entry into the highly competitive Dota 2 market. The new team, Immortals’ sixth active esports roster, will don the organization’s teal and black and begin its quest for glory in the 2018 season, ultimately with an eye towards the 2018 Aegis of Champions.
Dota 2 features a passionate, devoted fan base and the largest prize pool in esports. The game’s publisher, Valve, also recently introduced structural changes to the competitive landscape, creating ample runway for future growth. As such, Dota 2 presented Immortals with an attractive opportunity through which to expand its reach into a new community and engage with an even broader and more diverse network of fans. At the end of an extensive market evaluation, scouting process and countless internal discussions, the organization is confident that this roster represents the perfect fit for Immortals. Team Phoenix has a long history of competitive success at the highest levels and was the first Korean team to advance to The International. Just as important, Team Phoenix shares Immortals’ core values and vision for the future of Dota 2 and esports.
“At Immortals, we’ve made no secret of our desire, under the right set of conditions, to enter Dota 2. We were drawn to Dota because of the enthusiasm and avidity of the title’s fan base and the best-in-class live event experience. The game, fans, and presentation create a special combination of quality content and entertainment, precisely the kind of experience Immortals looks to deliver to our supporters. Immortals remains committed to fielding winning teams and, simultaneously, adding value to the ecosystems and communities in which we compete,” said Immortals CEO Noah Whinston. “We look forward to the challenge of continuing to raise the bar for content and fan engagement in Dota and to furthering our mission, across all titles, of uniting fans and players, and bringing the esports community closer than it has ever been to the games it loves.”
The Immortals Dota 2 roster will include:
- Doo-young “DUBU” Kim
- Sang-don “FOREV” Lee
- Seon-yeob “QO” Kim
- Yong-min “FEBBY” Kim
- No-a “MP” Pyo
Immortals will produce behind the scenes content throughout the season, giving fans insider access into the lives of professional Dota 2 players as they embark on their journey to qualify for The International. In addition to producing new forms of content in the space, Immortals has announced plans for fans to meet and interact with their favorite players and deepen their connection to the Immortals family through in-person activities and events at several locations, including LA Live in downtown Los Angeles.
“Our new Dota 2 roster is committed to working hard and enmeshing itself with our staff, the rosters of our other teams and most importantly, our passionate Immortals fans,” said Nick Phan, Immortals General Manager. “We’re excited to see the IMT Family take pride in Immortals’ growth, help us embrace our newest team, and welcome our new fans.”
As an organization, Immortals has already made great progress this year competitively, and, now armed with an all-star Dota 2 roster, is poised to continue competing for championships and eager to set a new, higher standard of what fans can and should expect from the organizations they support.
