Dodo Retires From Competitive Play

Today, Immortals announces the retirement of former Team 8 Support Jun “Dodo8” Kang. Dodo was an integral part of the Team 8 roster that battled through the Challenger Series and into the ranks of the LCS. Though he is leaving competitive play, Dodo will not be leaving the Immortals organization. As a rare example of a player that achieved competitive success in multiple game titles, Dodo will be bringing his wealth of experience to his new role as team manager, working closely with coaching staff, players, and upper-level management.

Dodo wanted to share some words with his fans and explain the reasons behind his retirement:

Hello everyone. Today I will be retiring as a competitive player, and will become the in house team manager for Immortals. I played competitive MOBA for almost 9 years now, from playing DOTA in DXD and IHCS, playing Heroes of Newerth with Chu in EG and being the best team in the world, and playing League of Legends professionally in the LCS with T8. The reason for my retirement is pretty simple, I realized I am not good enough to make it to worlds. The one ultimate goal when I decided to play League of Legends competitively was to play in the world championship. But after playing competitively for 2 years, I realized the chances of making it to worlds is very slim and I was not improving fast enough to make it possible. I am still confident in myself that I can perform at an LCS level, but when I can’t picture myself being in worlds, it is too hard to continue. I am also turning 27 soon and I feel old and burnt out after playing games competitively for so long.
Could I have played as a mediocre player for a few more splits? Yes. Did I want to? No. I did not have an amazing career in LoL as a player, but I realized my time is up as a player and I am ending it here.
Unfortunately I couldn’t reach my goal of making it to worlds in LoL, but I believe I can reach that goal as the team manager in the new team Immortals. I am confident in the strength of our new team and my knowledge and ability to manage our team into success.
For now, I will be heading to Europe to watch the World Championships and wander around different countries in Europe for a month. So if you see me walking around in Europe say hi :).

Til then, An nyung~
TLDR: “I’m too old”
